Brashear is a small rural community in Adair County, Missouri, located approximately 10 miles northeast of Kirksville. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 256. The town was named after John Brashear, an astronomer and inventor who was born in Pennsylvania in 1840. Today, Brashear is primarily an agricultural community that consists mainly of farms and small businesses. It has a post office, several churches, a community center, and a local volunteer fire department. The town is served by the Adair County R-II school district, which includes a K-12 school that serves students from Brashear and the surrounding areas.
